His Lordship Tentacles

Description

I've been playing a whole bunch of Torchlight II, which has these nether critters with flailing tentacles for arms and coming out of their necks or heads or something - the figures are so small and flailing so vigorously that it's hard for me to make it out. Couple that with the creepy factor of wrapping noggins so tight that it reshapes the cranium, and you have his Lordship Tentacles. He has kind of the necromancy vibe about him.

I see drapery studies in the near future... not super pleased with the toga.

Mechanical pencil sketch in a 6x9.5" sketchpad, tinted in Photoshop to intensify the darks and lights a bit.

If his robes were really stiff cloth, perhaps crusted with slime or something... But yeah, drapery is your friend. Byrne Hogarth's Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery helped me a whole bunch, and I bet there are not only a lot of "drapery" things available here on the site, but also among the various cloth articles Kelly has collected (different textures - brocade, and that liquidy silver stuff, crepe, velvet, cotton, blankets, *actual drapery hanging in the windows*; you know).

Besides all that, I love his tentacley bits. That is a hideously-shaped cranium, and the tentacles and spines make it bearable. ;p
